Library Terms

1. Your account

• You need to be 18 or older to create a library account.
• One account per person. Keep your login details to yourself.
• You're responsible for anything that happens under your account — let us know straight away if you think someone else has access to it.

2. Reading & downloading

• Every book in the library is free to read on-platform, no account needed for our free public-domain classics.
• A story written by one of our authors stays their copyright, always. When you download one, that copy is for your own personal reading. Please don't resell it, redistribute it, or post it anywhere else. It's someone's real life story.

3. Being part of this community

• Be decent. No harassment, hate speech, or abuse directed at authors or other members.
• No bots, scrapers, or bulk-downloading the catalogue. The library is built for people reading one book at a time.
• Don't impersonate an author or another member, or misrepresent who you are.

4. Payments & subscription

Individual story downloads are $2 (public-domain classics are free). Card payments go straight to Stripe — we never see or store your card details.

Once our annual library subscription opens to new members, it renews automatically each year unless you cancel beforehand. You'll always be able to see your subscription status and cancel from your account.

5. If you publish a book here (authors)

Every book is read by our team before it appears in the library. We may decline a book, or ask you to change it, and we will tell you why. You keep the copyright to your story, and you are responsible for what it says, as set out in our Terms of Service.

• What you earn. Library downloads are $2 each. From each sale we first take the card processing fee charged by Stripe. The rest is shared 49% to you, 49% to Ravenword Books and 2% to our founder. If a human writer worked on your book, it is 48% to you, 48% to Ravenword Books, 2% to our founder and 2% to the writer. Free downloads earn nothing for anyone.
• How you are paid. We pay authors through Stripe, straight to your bank account, once you have finished Stripe's short setup on your earnings page. We run payouts about once a month, and only when your balance is $5.00 or more. Smaller balances carry over to the next run.
• A short wait before payment. Each sale is held for 14 days before it can be paid out, in case of a refund. A refunded sale does not count towards your earnings.
• Tax. We do not withhold tax. You are responsible for any tax on what you earn, so please keep your own records.
• Seeing your numbers. Your earnings page shows your downloads, what you have earned, what is waiting to be paid, and what has been paid to you.
• Taking a book down. You can ask us to remove your book at any time and we will do it within 30 days. People who have already downloaded it keep their copy.

6. Your data

What we collect and how it's used is covered in full in our Privacy Policy. In short: we don't sell your data, and we don't use anything you read or download for any purpose beyond running the library.

7. Leaving

You can close your account and delete your data at any time — visit our account page →

8. If things go wrong

We may suspend or close a library account that breaks these guidelines — harassment, abuse, fraud, or attempting to redistribute an author's work without permission. Where possible, we'll tell you why before we do.

9. Changes to these terms

If we make a material change to these guidelines, we'll notify registered members by email at least 14 days before it takes effect.
